Some abilities can be combined for devastating combos and others are great for restorative purposes and sustain in battle. Some abilities help you in battle, while others only work when walking along the world map or in dungeons. For example, a White Mage can equip their "Solar Powered" Passive Ability (learned at level 5), and the Black Mage "Lunar Powered" Passive Ability (learned at level 5) to maximize MP regeneration in combat.

Each ability costs 1 to 4 points to equip, and can be placed in the Abilities page. Passive (green) abilities, once unlocked for a character, can be assigned regardless of that character’s current job. Any job EXP (JP) earned from battle will be counted towards the main-job equipped. By equipping a sub-job along along with a main-job, you can use both active abilities from the main-job and the sub-job you have equipped. You can also equip a main-job and a sub-job. You can only use the active abilities and passive abilities you've already learned. For example, I can assign Gloria the White Mage job as her main-job, but if I changed her into a Black Mage, she can equip her learned White Mage as a "sub-job" (this is known as a "Secondary Job").Įvery Job in Bravely Default has abilities that are active (and sometimes passive).
